Major updates

Team Entry for the daily duplicate tournament: bring a friend as your partner. Open your team table and send them its link; they take the North seat, and the two of you play the day's 8 hands together against computer opponents, ranked against the other pairs. The team and solo tournaments have their own hands, so you can play both.

Minor updates (9)

The team tournament has its own results page, and the results pages have a Solo / Team switch. A team's row shows both partners' names and both bids, and each hand shows North's cards as well as South's.
The Home page's Daily tournament box also shows how far your team has got today and where your team placed last time.
The Play menu has Team Entry and Team Results buttons, and the duplicate rules page explains how team entry works.
Fixed a rare "Something went wrong" error that could appear when a computer player made the first lead of a hand.
Puzzles, and the "brilliant" and "mistake" marks in Replay Analysis, now only come from moves the computer has studied thoroughly, so the early tricks of a hand with a nil bid no longer get them.
Computer players no longer assume that a player who leads the lowest card of a suit might be holding all the rest of it.
Computer players read the other players' cards more sensibly. They no longer assume that a player who plays low under their partner's winning card is missing the high cards, and they take a high card dropped under an ace as a sign that the player is short in that suit.
When a nil bid is broken, computer players no longer change how they read the cards played while the nil was still standing.
Replay Analysis now grades a card that is equal to the computer's choice (such as the queen from a king-queen holding) as "deceptive" rather than as a weaker move.

Major updates

While a computer player is thinking, a progress bar at its seat shows how far along it is. It takes the place of the computer player's clock at timed tables, and also shows in practice games, duplicate and nil exercises.
Between hands in practice and casual games, a box shows how each team's score changed in the hand just played: bids, tricks taken, points for the bid, nils, bags, any bag penalty and the new score. The next hand is dealt 3 seconds later, and the box stays open until you close it.
Computer players play much faster when someone has bid nil, especially early in the hand.
The Home page has a Daily tournament box: play or continue today's duplicate tournament in one click, open yesterday's results, and see where you placed yesterday.
Replay Analysis analyzes the whole hand as soon as you open it, and everyone who opens a replay gets the same grades and suggestions. Tricks fill the list as they're analyzed, and moving between them is instant, with buttons for the first, previous, next and last trick. Moving forward plays the cards up to your next choice, and the last trick slides to its winner before the hand's review.

Minor updates (9)

New nil exercises are checked by the computer before they're added, so every new one can be won with the right play. Exercises are no longer retired because too many or too few players solve them.
Computer players no longer have a clock: their thinking never uses up time, so no team can win or lose on time because of a computer player.
Practice games have a Resign button in the side panel: after you confirm, it ends the game you're in and deals you a new one straight away.
At timed tables, the pause between hands no longer uses up the time of the player who bids first: their clock starts once the new hand has been dealt.
A computer player that can't follow suit, and so has many cards to choose from, no longer takes much longer to play than one that follows.
Duplicate results have Yesterday and Today buttons next to the date, and a button to play today's tournament until you've played all its hands. If you haven't played today's tournament yet, the results open on yesterday's instead of asking you to play first.
A link to one trick in Replay Analysis, such as a puzzle's solution, analyzes just that trick, with a Full Analysis button for the whole hand.
Replay Analysis shows the whole deal at the end of every hand.
Replay Analysis no longer has play/pause or restart buttons, and the profile's "pauses after these moves" settings are gone.

October 8th, 2026

Major updates

The whole site has been redesigned with a new dark look: a new landing page, Home page, menus, sign-in and account pages, and game boards.
- Every game board now has the table on the left with a side panel on the right, the score on the table, and fanned hands that stay about the same size on any screen.
- Menu tiles are coloured by section: Study blue, Train purple, Tools orange, Play green.

Minor updates (9)

Bots now have a time limit when there is a nil on the table, so they no longer get stuck thinking for minutes at a time.
Hand Solver: if a position with a nil takes the solver too long, it shows plain trick counts and a notice instead of waiting.
The last trick now shows as a compass with the leader marked "Led" and the winning card highlighted. It stays visible after the next trick's first card is played.
During bidding, seat labels only show the dealer, clock and bid, so the table is less crowded.
Nil Calculator: West, North and East's bids now sit on the table by each seat, and the dealer chip follows the bids as you pick them.
Space now steps forward like the → key on the replay viewer, Replay Analysis, Hand Solver and Puzzles. ←, → and Space also step through lessons.
Larger game clocks, a red Resign and yellow Flag button, green confirm buttons and a bigger Play button.
The Home page only shows the newest news post. Older posts are under "Older news".
Min Tricks Calculator has its own icon.

October 6th, 2026

Major updates

Major improvements to bots skill level when there is a nil on the table (max of 3 nils).
Nil tricks now count towards a team's bid.
Reduced thinking time of bots first couple of moves in duplicate tournaments.
You can now solve hands with nil bids (up to 3 nil bids) with the Hand Solver.

Minor updates (27)

You can now use the Minimize tricks direction of the Hand Solver at any card count.
Clicking around the site no longer reloads the page, so moving between pages feels instant. Back and Forward work the same way.
New banner: if you're seated at a casual table and go to another page, a bar under the menu says "You're seated at Spades table x." It has a Return to table button. On board pages it pushes the board down a little, so the page scrolls.
Duplicate: Match points always show one decimal (e.g. "44.0"), standings sort correctly (10 now comes after 9), and the results header appears immediately, with a spinner below it while the results load.
Lessons: Back now restores the board as it was on that page (cards go back into the hands) so the back button is now a true back button, and is available during quizzes.
Puzzles and nil exercises’ success rate is a whole number ("29%", not "28.999…%").
Breaking your own nil in As Nil exercises no longer causes a "Something went wrong" error.
Hand Solver: the web address follows your position, so you can bookmark or share it. If you play too fast, the card is undone and you can play it again.
Replay Analysis: the web address follows the trick you've reached, so you can share it mid-hand.
Leaving a page mid-animation and coming back starts it fresh, with nothing left playing.
Several broken addresses now show the normal "page not found" page.
Ratings now use standard Elo:
- Missing an easier puzzle costs more than missing a harder one.
- A draw between equal ratings changes nothing.
- Ratings already earned stay as they are.
Nil exercise ratings now use your actual rating (before, every win was +20 whatever the ratings).
Faster page load times and move submission times on various pages.
A dropped connection reconnects on its own and shows "Connection lost. Reconnecting…". The "disconnected" message only appears if reconnecting fails.
If a player has been gone longer than 15 seconds, opponents get the Flag button and their partner gets Resign straight away. Before, this waited for the next move.
When one player on a team runs out of time, the whole team is shown out of time.
If two players click at the same moment, one gets "It is not your turn to play." and the game stays consistent. Moves no longer get doubled.
Fixed a bug where bots incorrectly calculated game-ending bag-outs, which slightly changes how they play the endgame.
Error messages are clearer. Examples: "Wait until everyone has bid before playing a card." and "You can't play that card: follow the suit that was led…"
Signing in after 5 wrong passwords is blocked for 5 minutes.
Changing your password signs out your other devices within 30 minutes.
The calculators allow 10 calculations a minute. The Hand Solver allows 60 moves a minute.
An invalid bid no longer stays stuck in the game.
The replay viewer no longer freezes if you click forward too early. At the end, Back replays trick 13.
Picking a duplicate results date with no tournament shows "No tournament on this date." instead of an error.
The counting-card exercises and Replay Maker were removed and now show as "Coming Soon". The broken Hearts rules page and two unfinished lessons were removed.

July 17th, 2026

Major updates

Bots in duplicate tournaments should now make the exact same bids and choice of cards if two players play identically.

For example: Player 1 and Player 2 received the same exact same choice of bids and cards from the bots because they played identically to each other.

Second example: Player 1 and Player 2 received the same bids because they bid the same, but received different card choices by the bots because there was deviation in choice of card by Player 1 and Player 2.

Minor updates (5)

Fixed bots bidding too conservatively (they evaluated bags as +1 instead of -9 when calculating best bid)
Bots will sit in identical seats for each player and in each hand of duplicate tournaments (all bots behaved the same anyway, so this was just a visual change).
